Noela, from Tabata division, happened to be the contestant that impressed the judges the most to deserve the crown as she beat off stiff competition from Magdalena Roy Munisi, 21, from Dar City Centre division, who won second place. Mary Chizi, meanwhile, grabbed the second runner-up position and copped the best talent trophy as well.
The fourth and fifth positions were won by Mecktilda Martin, 19, from Dar City Centre and Elizabeth Pretty, 21, from Ukonga, respectively. Noela, who is set to join University of Dar es Salaam this year for undergraduate studies, took home 1.5m/-, while the first and second runners up got 1.2m/- and 700,000/- respectively.
Mary was also awarded 500,000/- after winning the best talent contest. The fourth and fifth winners got 400, 000/- apiece while the rest of the contestants pocketed a consolation prize of 200, 000/- each. They are Suzan Deodatus, Whitness Michael, Stella Moris, Wilmina Mvungi, Zawadi Mwambe, Rehema Said, Diana Simon, Amina Sangwe and Phillios Lemi.
The top three winners will represent the municipal in the Miss Tanzania beauty pageant later this year. The colourful pageant was accompanied by performances from, Machozi Band, Chegge and renowned traditional musician, Wanne Star. It was attended by scores of beauty pageant enthusiasts including, politicians and movie stars.
Ilala has so far been performing well in the Miss Tanzania pageant, in which the municipality’s contestants have either been winning or finishing as runners-up to the eventual winners on several occasions. The municipality won the Miss Tanzania crown in 2011 through Salha Israel. Ilala representative, Angela Damas also scooped Miss Tanzania title in 2002.
In 2003, Miss Ilala, Nargis Mohamed, grabbed the second runner- up spot while the following year saw Miss Ilala, Verdiana Kamugisha, take the first runner- up position. Ilala impressed again in 2008 by taking the first runner-up position through Sylvia Mashuda, while Juliet Lugembe and Sylvia Shally came second and fourth respectively the following year and Consolata Lukosi finished as second runner-up last year.
