The seminars which are conducted by the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) started over the weekend with Kinondoni District in Dar es Salaam setting the pace.
Acting TIC Investment Promotion Director, Mr Mathew Mnali told the participants during the seminar that it is now right time for the councilors to be familiar with investment concepts so that they can stimulate businesses in their areas where they wield a lot of influence.
“Next will be Ilala, Temeke and other municipal councils throughout the country would follow,” he said. He challenged the councillors to come up with investment ideas in their local communities to enable the centre plan accordingly. Mr Mnali said TIC was ready to secure investors for Kinondoni Municipal Council if they allocate suitable land for tourism projects.
He asked the councilors to support foreign investors and not to discourage them, because, doing so would be backpedalling all other efforts by different stakeholders. On his part, the Kinondoni Municipal Council Mayor, Mr. Yusuph Mwenda hailed the training seminar, saying that it was timely.
“The seminar has come at a right time…Kinondoni leads other municipal councils in hosting various investment activities,” Mr Mwenda said, adding that they will use the acquired knowledge in advancing the municipal council’s social economic development.
He noted that Kinondoni Municipal Council has abundant tourist attractions such as beautiful beaches. One of the seminar participants, Ms Kimwana Sherally, a Special Seats Ward Councillor said the knowledge she acquired would help her push the investment agenda to people at the grassroots level.
